Wondering if "Electified" is any good?!?
It was nominated by the Contemporary A Cappella
Society for two CARAs (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards). The
nominations were announced in February, 2004 and
Unplugged received a nod for Best Barbershop Song for
Somewhere Over The Rainbow; and for Best Barbershop Album for
Electrified! The quartet went on to receive a runner-up nod for
Somewhere Over The Rainbow!
Or, read this review from Primarily A Cappella (more testimonials below):
"These four talented women, three from the Seattle area and one from
Vancouver, BC, seem to be on a fast track to Sweet Adelines acclaim. They
came together from a variety of award-winning ensembles to form Unplugged
in January 2001, and have been wowing audiences with their distinctive
sound, dynamic expression and delightful comedy ever since. Less than a
year after their first rehearsal, they captured 11th place at the 2001
International competition, and in March they ventured into the wide world
of a cappella and won second place at the Pacific Northwest Harmony
Sweepstakes regional. A 9th place finish at the 2002 Sweet Adelines
Internationals in Nashville was followed by 6th place in 2004 in Phoenix!
Sixteen spirited tunes, plus bonus track 'Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.'
Some favorites: 'It Ain't What You Do,' the very funny 'I Can Cook, Too,'
'Two Tickets to Georgia/Sentimental Gentleman from Georgia,' 'It is Well
With My Soul,' the CASA-nominated 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow,' 'The
Moment I Saw Your Eyes' and 'I Love to Hear That Old Barbershop Style.'
Unplugged can harmonize and belt 'em with the best of them, they pick
great music, and have excellent arrangements...which is why they'll be
panning for Gold at next year's Internationals!"

We think our CD is pretty great, but if you
don't believe us, here is some unsolicited testimonial...
"I have to admit, I'm a bit of a barbershop CD
snob. Of the 50 or so I own, the majority are international champs of
some kind. I have a few others, but they're mostly CDs of friends of
mine. Well, there's a new CD out by my friends from Unplugged, so I
picked one up. I have to say, I am blown away!! I'm not writing this
e-mail intending to plug their CD, I'm just truly proud of Unplugged and
very impressed with what they've produced.
I've listened to the whole CD a few times now (a lot more than that to a
few of my favorite songs), and I keep finding more songs that I love!
The choice of songs is great (17 of them), the quartet sounds awesome,
and Julie's lead singing is amazing!
A couple of highlights for me (I'm partial to the
ballads, in case you can't tell):
- If I Love Again - beautifully sung, heartfelt
lead solo - wow - my favorite!
- Crying Myself To Sleep - I didn't know this
song, but it has quickly become one of my favorites - very emotional!
- It Ain't What You Do - fun, jazzy, smooth Don
Rose arrangement!
- One Small Voice - Megan Hagstrom solo - great
song, great lyrics, remarkably well sung, Megan!
What a great CD! Don't miss out on this one!"
