All About Unplugged!
Julie Hagstrom, Lead

Julie is the quintessential barbershop brat, having joined Sweet Adelines
at the ripe old age of 14. She grew up watching her dad, Maurice, during
his quartet rehearsals. Her mother, Janet, was a member of the Chehalis,
WA chorus (Julie was their director!).
She won her first regional medal--gold--in 1996 with TrademarK
after 20 years as a Sweet Adeline; a true example of how hard work and a
"never give up attitude" pays off. Between 1997-2000, Julie also earned a
silver medal and three regional championships with Seattle Style,
not to mention a couple with Pacific
Sound Chorus!
Julie is a lead section leader in Pacific Sound, as well as a member of
the front row and part of the audition/teaching quartet (along with Teresa
and Anna!). She also serves on the Region 13 faculty.
Julie is the only married member of Unplugged and the only one with
children: Josh (18 and attending Central Washington University), Megan
(14), Danny (7), and Emmalee (2), adopted from China in October, 2002. Her
husband, Ron, is a great supporter of the quartet; when they are busy at a
quartet weekend, he’s home with 4 kids, 3 cats, 1 dog and 6 alpacas! Megan won her first International medal in Indianapolis, joining
her mother on the risers as a member of Pacific Sound. She recorded one of
the songs on Unplugged's first CD,
Unplugged, Electrified, and listens to
barbershop non-stop; she's even more of a barbershop brat than her mother
(you can read more about Megan by clicking
here)!
After Danny was born, Ron “retired” from Microsoft and Julie went back to
work so Ron could become a stay-at-home dad. Julie recently left the
banking industry and is now working with Ron buying and fixing up houses
for resale.
Teresa McCafferty, tenor

Speaking of barbershop brats. . .it took Teresa's mother, Chris McCafferty,
ten years to talk her daughter into joining Sweet Adelines. However, once
she took the plunge, she never looked back. Within six months, Teresa was
on the board of directors and in her first quartet, and within two years
was her mother's section leader.
Teresa is a tenor section leader of
Pacific Sound, a member of the audition/teaching quartet, serves
on the long-range planning team, and stands dead center second row,
surrounded by all the basses! She's a member of the Region 13 faculty and
is also the Quartet Development Coordinator (Julie and Anna are her loyal
and devoted committee members!) for the region. Along with Anna, Teresa is
the founder of the Sea-Adelines Educational Endowment Fund, created to
enhance quartet education. She serves as one of the Fund's Trustees.
Rainier Rhythm was Teresa's first quartet in 1993 and they
won the Regional Novice Award. In 1994, she won her first regional
championship in Park Place with Anna, but the lead moved to
New York after International in Reno, and that's when Teresa and Julie
found each other. They got together with friends Rose Cooper and Susan
Lamb (now bass of a cappella Gold, though she sang
baritone in this combo) and went to International in Ft. Lauderdale in
1996 as TrademarK. After Ft. Lauderdale, Susan moved to San Diego .
. . do you see a pattern here? Teresa and Julie hooked back up with Anna
and fellow chorus member Sally Denkelberg and went on to compete four
times at International as Seattle Style.
Teresa works for fellow barbershoppers, Chuck (Northwest
Spirit Quartet) and Jill Landback, and jokes that they
know her vacation schedule six years in advance, since it’s always
centered around a barbershop contest or event. Jill sings with Teresa in
Pacific Sound Chorus, but Teresa’s not her section leader --
darn!
Anna Chamberlain, baritone

Continuing the quartet's "family barbershop connections," Anna is the
sister of Ted Chamberlain, director of
Rainier Valley Harmonizers (SPEBSQSA) in
Puyallup, WA, and longtime quarteter, currently singing with
Vocal Magic. Anna started
singing barbershop in high school, but it was Ted who helped her find
Sweet Adelines after college.
Anna is dancing in the front row and singing with the International
medalist chorus, Pacific Sound,
under the master direction of Carole Kirkpatrick, past SAI president. Anna
is also a Region 13 faculty member, and a Trustee for the Sea-Adelines
Educational Endowment Fund, which she founded with Teresa. Like Julie and
Teresa, Anna is also a section leader and a member of the
audition/teaching quartet, as well as a member of the Region 13 Faculty.
Anna won her first Regional contest in Park Place with
Teresa. She had several Top Five regional finishes prior to that
(including two with Susan Lamb as a lead!). After Park Place,
she got together with some close friends and won the regional Novice Award
with Java Town Jive. Then she went on to form Seattle
Style with Teresa and Julie.
Anna is an Officer Manager for a printing company in Seattle.
Judy Pozsgay, bass

Judy is the Canadian of the group and the youngest member of our quartet,
something she reminds Julie of frequently, since Julie's . . . not!
Judy hasn't been at this barbershop thing as long as the others, but she's
piled up her credentials quickly. She started in Sweet Adelines as a lead,
but had switched to bass about six months before the International-bound
quartet Go-Go! asked her to sing with them in 1997. Less
than three months later, they placed 12th in Salt Lake City.
Judy is a member, choreographer, and Assistant Director for the
award-winning Lion’s Gate
Chorus from Vancouver, BC Canada, under the master direction of
Sandy Robinson (Brava,
the 2004 International Championship Quartet). She is an Approved Candidate
judge in the Showmanship category AND is the Education Coordinator for
Region 26. Makes you tired just reading about it!
Judy works for the University of British Columbia, Law Faculty as the
Associate Director of Career Services. Judy is a lawyer and former grad of
UBC Law School and although she no longer "officially" practices law, that
doesn't stop her from using her courtroom interrogation and persuasion
tactics on the quartet!
All four members of Unplugged are active coaches for quartets and
choruses
in Regions 13 and 26; contact them directly if you are interested in
working with any of them.
